How to make a Watermelon Candle

First, take a small piece of wax (about the size below) and melt in the double boiler.

Once melted, mix in the black dye.

Dip your paint brush in the wax and paint on watermelon seeds in the inside of your candle jar. Make sure your seeds are painted on the top half of the jar. Paint over them 2 to 3 times to make sure they are dark enough.

Now, measure out your wax and fragrance for the green portion. For this 8 oz mason jar, I used 2.5 ouces of wax and 0.25 ounces of fragrance for the green portion. Once wax has melted to 185 degrees Fahrenheit, add the fragrance oil and green dye. I used the Bath and Body Works scent, “Cucumber Melon” for this candle.

Once dye and fragrance have been mixed thoroughly, pour wax into jar. Pour slowly. Use a pin or other utensil to keep wick centered.

Once wax has completely cooled, you are ready to pour the second layer. The candle will look like the picture below when cooled.

For the white layer, I use 1 oz of wax and about 0.1 oz of fragrance. Do not use dye for this layer. Once wax is melted to 185 degrees Fahrenheit, mix in fragrance and pour into candle.

Allow second layer to cool. For the third layer, prepare 4.5 ounces of wax and about 0.45 ounces of fragrance. Once wax has melted to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix fragrance and red dye. Pour into candle but leave some wax behind.

Once this layer cools, it is common for a sinkhole to form in this type of jar. melt the remaining wax left over and pour into candle.

Allow to cool completely, trim wick to 1/4 inch, and you have a beautiful watermelon candle! You can burn within 24 to 48 hours.
